Ryan's great inspiration strikes again!
one for each mother - and they are all slightly different, depending on how much Paige hated getting her hands cold from the cement!
He's going to do one every year (until we forget!) and we are going to make a path in the yard - that is where it gets better than just a hand print stone!
The process:
oiled up Meredith's hands and helped her press them in
keep Paige warm, before it's her turn
Meredith would have pressed her hands in cement all night, but after the three papa cleaned her off and they got Paige ready
Oil up Paige - you can see she is starting to get confused
help Paige spread her fingers and push in her hands - this is the second stone, she was really only ok for the first one - after that her little hands were cold and yucky and she wanted nothing to do with it!
And the "recipe" in case you were wondering, and because I will know we will forget next year unless we write it down:
bag of sacrete/mortar mix (cement is too pebbly)
mix with water 5:1 (mix:water) to the consistency of soft dough - ryan said he made it a bit thick
pour in containers til half full
insert trimmed hardware cloth for additional stability
fill container
wait 30-60 minutes - we should have kept it closer to 30, would have been easier to get their hands pushed in far enough
let sit for 2-3 days to set, spritz with water few times a day to cure evenly.
Voila!
Happy Mother's Day
